Virgin Media
I resolved the issue by changing the virgin super hub into 'Modem Only Mode' then attaching a TP link router to it. This appears to have rectified all the strange issues they were experiencing hoorah! :)
They also received spam ip calls which I fixed by changing the local sip port to 7999
Zoiper on iPhone
When Zoiper goes into background, call reception can be a bit hit and miss. No elegant solutions at the moment, although the battery-guzzling mode "Force background" setting in Incoming Calls can help.
